There are chardonnays and there are zinfandels. There are many options. In order to know which type you like, you are simply going to have to try several! Wines are made around the world. In general, it is wise to purchase older wines that have aged. That is because as it ages, the flavors become bolder and fuller. If you have the time, patience and expense, you can actually make your own wines. It can be quite a learning experience!
